RIDE NOTES for Tuesday 18th June

Coffee planned for North Narrabeen Surf Club but please bring ID (for Long Reef Golf Club) in case weather is unsuitable. We will rejoin the return route by road avoiding the unsealed track section around Narrabeen Lake. The harder climbing parts of the ride can be done at your own pace. Although specified as Moderate pace we may only achieve steady due to route.

Cancelled if raining. (Check texts if opted in and calendar.)

Description

The ride starts with the North Shore bike routes and quiet roads to the Spit Bridge. From Dalwood House Seaforth we use Wakehurst Parkway to the south side of Warringah Rd. We then take a route through Allambie Heights, Beacon Hill, Narraweena and Cromer up over Collaroy Plateau detouring through part of Anzac Village before joining up with a shared path on the east side of Narrabeen Lakes. In Anzac Village a small museum is worthy of a visit if time permits. Views from Collaroy Plateau to the ocean and Narrabeen Lakes are spectacular. The ride returns through Dee Why, Curl Curl Beach, Harbord and Manly Vale to recross Spit Bridge.

Pace is faster on the flatter sections of the ride where route allows to achieve the “steady” average. Regroups at the top of longer climbing sections. Short sections of the ride have heavier traffic.

Approximately 1.5km of the Narrabeen Lake path section is unsealed and not advisable for road bikes and hybrids in or after wet weather. It is suggested to avoid doing the ride in busy summer weekend periods or school holidays due to high activity on this path. Using Pittwater Rd to Dee Why is an alternative option to the lake path if necessary.

At June 2019 roadworks on Warringah Rd are still to be completed. This ride crossing route may need to be revised later in 2019.
