Starting from Waterfall Station, we descend McKell Ave to the junction with Lady Wakehurst Dr which we follow through the National Park and up and over Stanwell Tops where we pause to observe the weekend Paragliders and the view South to see the Seacliffe Bridge snaking before us in the far distance before sharply descending the Lawrence Hargrave Dr and finally crossing the Seacliffe Bridge before turning onto the foreshore track at Thirroul and the flat ride into Wollongong and the Rail Station where we catch the train back to Sydney. The road generally follows the train line and after Otford, there are quite a few stations within a few km of the route for those unable to continue. There are no bale out points until Otford (16 km) and no places to pick up water. After Stanwell Tops, the route is lined with frequent cafes and toilet blocks so picking up water is no problem.
Until Thirroul, the road is quite narrow and winding so care must be taken on bends to stay in the left hand lane. Some recent accidents involving bikes along this road have been a result of bikes taking the bends too fast and straying into the right hand lane and oncoming traffic. Otherwise, a good road surface for the whole route. There is minimal traffic during the week but the weekends see some recreational traffic.
