The ride title “Riff RAAF” calls out the main feature of this ride – a loop around the RAAF Base in Richmond. From the M7 cycleway, riders turn off onto Richmond Road for a flat, quicker section, with few stops all the way into Richmond. Coffee stop in Richmond, before riding through historic tree-line streets and a scenic loop around the RAAF base. Another quicker section to Rouse Hill via the Hawksbury Valley Way and Windsor Road. Riders then leave the road to join cycle paths back to Bella Vista Metro Station. A Ride Leader may choose to run this ride along various sections of road shoulder or cycle path along Richmond and Windsor Roads, depending on the group and other factors on the day. Allow 4.5 – 5 hours for the ride including ride briefing, regroups and coffee at a Moderate 19-22km/h pace. Riders are to have geared road bikes. While there are shared paths, riders need to be comfortable on the road / shoulder riding alongside fast moving traffic, including heavy vehicles. Bail Out points include the Richmond Railway station (35km) and Rouse Hill Metro Station (63km). Please let the Ride Leader know BEFORE you leave the ride. Numerous options for toilets and water along the route. Hazard warnings: Loose gravel and other road debris along route. Narrow shoulder in parts require riding in single file. Groves Road intersection with Windsor Road at McGraths Hill – notorious magpie hazard during Spring.
