This is a shorter version of the Akuna Bay and Church Point ride. You should be fit, skilled on hills and competent to fix any minor breakdowns that occur. You should be competent to ride in busy, fast-moving traffic along Monavale Rd between St Ives and Terrey Hills and be comfortable with traffic passing nearby on narrow roads through the National Park.
We start Cameron Park Turramurra. Our first regroup is a pickup point for additional riders at the carpark in Monavale Rd opposite Stanley St in St Ives. We then ride north along Mona Vale Rd to regroup at the Terrey Hills firestation and then descend clockwise through Akuna Bay to climb steeply up to West Head Rd. From there we descend to Church Point and continue on to Bayview where we stop for coffee and snacks. We then ride back along McCarrs Creek Rd to regroup at the Terrey Hills firestation after a testing 8km ascent up McCarrs Creek Rd and then return via Mona Vale Rd to St Ives & then to Turramurra via Pentecost Ave.
This ride is suitable for strong riders on road bikes or lighter flat bar bikes setup for fast road travelling. Two water bottles and snacks are recommended. Total elapsed time is about 4 hours including regrouping and coffee stop.
