When Spring arrives, our thoughts turn to warmer weather, and cycling in Port Stephens!
Each year Bike North treks north to celebrate Spring in a weekend of rides by the seaside! All rides are led by certified Bike North Ride Leaders following all the usual protocols. Most rides are on road with some cycle paths or on-road cycle lanes.
All members are invited. Not yet a member? No worries,
join up in advance and we will welcome you along.
A Rides Calendar is created in advance, with the tour organisers choosing interesting, different and scenic rides each year. Riders register for the rides, as usual, and are expected to be self-sufficient in terms of their equipment.
Getting there
Transport to and from Port Stephens will be the responsibility of participants. Travelling by train to Newcastle is an option, but you will have to ride the flat 50km to, and from, Newcastle to Nelson Bay.
Accommodation
Participants need to make their own accommodation bookings. A group discount may be obtained from a hotel and if so will be notified to registrants. The Information Centre at Nelson Bay (phone: 1800 808 900, or
http://portstephens.org.au) can advise on a choice of accommodation including apartments, B&B, hotels, motels, resorts, holiday homes, holiday parks and backpackers.
Gear
Standard on-bike requirements including warm clothing for on and off the bike. Include a wet weather jacket if forecast includes showers. Ensure you have lights if planning to ride after sunset. Ensure you have your own tool kit and spares. Ride Leaders will carry first aid kits. However you may bring your own if you wish.
Meals
Breakfasts are at your choice. On each ride, however, we will have a Bike North coffee stop. Depending on the ride distance and pace, a second coffee or early lunch stop may be included. Check the details of your ride on the Rides Calendar to find out.
For evening meals, you may make your own arrangements or join in a group booking. The more the merrier! All details will be provided after registration and closer to the date.
The Bike North Spring Classic to Port Stephens was held in 2022.
