7 October 2026              Your Bike North NewsLETTER

From the President

A big thank you to Brian and all the ride leaders who contributed to our 63 Activ8 rides. Levels of participation have been sensational. With so many blowing the winter cobwebs away in September, I hope to see many more joining rides over the rest of 2026.
On Sunday October 11th, Bike North has a stall at Paramatta Park.
We will be at the finish point of the 50km Spring Cycle to promote membership. If you can assist between 7:30am and 1:30pm please let me know at president@bikenorth.org.au
or call me on 0407703301.
Plans have commenced for Cowra 2027. Lock in March 25 to 29th and make sure you book your accommodation either in town or at the Caravan park. More information to follow over the next month.
Save the date, Bike North’s Christmas Party will be held on December 6th.
Ride information and further details to follow. Safe riding.

Member Name: Nikki Baker

How Long Have you been a Member:  I joined BN in 2011.  Sometimes I am a regular rider with BN (usually Tuesdays).  However there are other periods where you may not see me for some months (like 2025) but it’s always lovely to return & see familiar faces.
What do you like about Bike North:   I like the variety of rides that BN has available and the rides take me to places that I would never have discovered otherwise.  Riding in a group provides great encouragement to improve – I always seem to be on the comeback trail for fitness (either because of injury, or being off the bike for a period of time for non-cycling holidays).

What type of Bike North Rides do you prefer and why:  My preference is for rides that are 19-22kph average that are more free-flowing.  One of my favourite routes is Turramurra, McCarrs Creek & Beaches loop.  It has a bit of everything – Pittwater views, ocean views, some hills and also the option to shorten the ride with a ferry back to Circular Quay…. And of course the whole ride allows for real estate envy viewing!

Did you ride through Winter or are you Activ8ing:  I did ride during winter, but it was much harder to get motivated so now trying to increase my activity.

Outside of cycling, what other hobbies or interests do you have:  Jigsaws, cryptic crosswords & reading are some of my non active interests and I do try to walk regularly.  In 2016 another BN member (Gerry Both) introduced me to Navigational Car Rallying and since then I have been hooked with the challenge of using the maps & following obscure instructions in various events with me as the navigator, whilst my husband drives.

Given the choice, what cycling related activity would you love to do:   I have been fortunate to do a lot of overseas & domestic cycle trips over the years.  Some have been with cycle touring companies & some have been with other BN friends.  The trips have varied with some solely road riding from a few days to 5 weeks, and other trips self-supported cycle touring.  I would like to do some more off-road gravel touring in Aus – but with the luxury of overnight accommodation rather than camping.
