From St Leonards Station use cycleway to Lane Cove Village. Following a visit to The Canopy, we navigate through Lane Cove West to Riverview Rd - a steep road leading down to Burns Bay; very important to check brakes the evening before- this route is chosen so as to miss the majority of busy Burns Bay Road. Cross Fig Tree Bridge that spans Lane Cove River, ride through tranquil Riverglade Reserve, and up to cross Tarban Creek Bridge leading into Hunter Hill Village to view many domestic architectural styles, plus see the local white sand stone Gothic style churches. Good river views, plus Kelly's Bush history.
Aiming for the 12.24 pm Ferry from Valencia St at Woolwich over to Greenwich Wharf. Because of hourly/limited ferry service, coffee stop will be either prior to, or after ferry, depending on how we are going. There is a seven bike limit on Ferry.
From Greenwich Wharf, ride up to Wollstonecraft, cross the share bridge over Smoothey Park and ride into St Leonards, crossing River Road with much care, making use of refuge island. Finish ride at St Leonards Station. There are a choice of food outlets at the station.
Hazards : I x steep down hill ; 2 areas of uneven tree root surfaces at Riverglade and Burns Bay Reserves, walking your bike will be an option. Generally a hilly ride, particularly in Hunters Hill; although short on kms the ride can take 3 hours, many stops of interest and commentary.
As a bike limit of 7, if the ride proves popular, I will repeat soon after.
