This ride which can be ridden any day of the week throughout the year, starts at North Sydney rail station and descends to Milsons Point where we climb the steps to Harbour Bridge Cycleway with expansive views over the Harbour. From Forte St, the route continues under the Bridge to Cumberland St continuing S for 100 m before climbing steps to the Cahill Shared Path to the Domain, stopping halfway to a lookout over Circular Quay.
At the end of the Path, continue S on the Macquarie St Shared Path rounding the State Library to a crossing and a Shared Path through The Domain which exits onto Art Gallery Road.
Another shared path to the SE of the Art Gallery takes us to a flyover to a lift or steps to Bourke St and then to Cowper Wharf Rd before turning R at lights and a short steep climb up Wyld St to Potts Point before descending to Rushcutters Bay and back roads around Darling Point and Double Bay before joining the New South Head Rd where care must be taken with traffic for 0.7 km before turning off to ride back streets around Point Piper.
We rejoin the New South Head Road Shared Path at 14.8 km riding around Rose Bay before riding the main road at 16.4 km to a moderate climb (4% ave) up 'Heartbreak Hill', so beloved by City to Surf runners for 1.3 km.
Turning down Vaucluse Rd, the route explores back roads and parks of Vaucluse before dismounting to take a lane at 21 km to a bridge across Parsley Bay. The route then follows the coast to Watsons Bay with several cafes and a ferry terminal for those that wish to cut the ride short.
The route climbs steadily to Dover Heights past two lighthouses and the South Head cemetery before descending via back roads to Bondi Beach then following coast roads through Tamarama to Bronte before heading W through Centennial Park to the CBD following bike lanes to the Harbour Bridge and completing the loop back to North Sydney station.
The route is almost entirely on sealed and quiet suburban streets. The major hazards on this ride are, two short stretches on the New South Rd, where there will be traffic and parked cars opening doors and pedestrians in the beachside suburbs.
Toilets are conveniently placed in parks along the route which is also well serviced with cafes and food stops
Bail out points along the route are ferry points along the route to Watsons Bay, a rail station at Bondi Junction and rail stations in the CBD
