Your cup of tea?

Are you wondering if you'd like join to the Executive Committee? Do you want to know more about what happens there?  Is it how you could to contribute to Bike North and its members?

Do you want to find out if it’s ‘your cup of tea’?

Find out next Tuesday evening!  We are holding our monthly Executive Committee meeting and we would love you to come along.

Please arrive at about 7:15 pm so we can say hello, in good time for our start time of 7:30.  You are welcome to stay for as long or as short as you want. In fact, this will be a special meeting as we will even lay on some refreshments! To help us with catering, please register for the event as you do for rides.  The event pages shows the address where we meet.  (Tip: come to the large carpark around the back, which is right beside our meeting room.)

Here is an early draft of the Agenda , so you can see the sorts of things we will be discussing (log into the website then click the link).

If you can't join us in person, perhaps you’d like to join us by Zoom.  When the time comes, here is the link to the Zoom session.  (Tip: you might like to click this link well before the meeting starts; Zoom often needs to update itself before it starts.)

We hope to see you next Tuesday evening!

Tour de Cowra 2025: What to bring

Are you coming to Cowra at Easter? You are most welcome!

Here are some tips on what to bring:

  • Cash is king. Please bring cash to facilitate payment, especially at Woodstock and Koorawatha Hotels. With limited mobile phone coverage, payment by card is often impossible.
  • First aid kit.
  • High visibility clothing and tail lights/headlights.
  • Your Bike North jersey, to wear with pride on our Easter Saturday and ANZAC Day jersey days.
  • Puncture repair kits. Bring lots of patches. There are none for sale in Cowra, and even a spare tyre. Sometimes the remains of a cat head can be impossible to remove.
  • Snacks for the rides with no morning tea, Pine Mount, Conimbla, and Chiverton loop. (We will be well catered for in Woodstock, Wyangala Dam, Gooloogong, Canowindra and Koorawatha).

Check out our Bike North Tour de Cowra Event page for all the details.

Skills and Safety Matters

‘Feathering' your brakes

If you are using your brakes for a long time, such as coming down a long hill, they get very hot. That reduces their grip, which could become very dangerous; you may not be able to stop in time, if you need to.  It also wears out the brakes faster.
Try ‘feathering’ your brakes.

Apply pressure on your breaks as lightly as you can, and release them for short periods so that the brakes get a chance to cool down a little between squeezes.

You can keep a constant rate of slowing by alternating between your brakes: squeeze the left brake while you are easing up in the right brake, and vice-versa.You probably do this when you drive a car down a long hill too.  Do you tap down on your brakes and then release them after a little while, alternating between tapping and releasing them?  That’s ‘feathering’.

Note: Risks and hazards are an inherent part of cycling.  These tips are intended to help reduce those risks.  Please see the risk and health warning we publish on every ride.
