Ride to Commence at Epping Station - East side (Cambridge Street)
Ride to end (Turramurra station)
This ride is a long hard ride with long hills. We travel from Epping via Browns Waterhole, Back Streets of KISSO, Turramurra, Bobbin Head, Mt Colah, Cowan then to Mount White , make a turn at Saddles and returns via Cowan, Bobbin Head and conclude at Turramurra Station . WE WILL NOT BE GOING TO BROOKYLN
**We will have toilet / water Breaks at the top of Bobbin Head West, Saddles and coffee at PIES Sky**
** PLEASE DO NOT GET PING BY SPEED CAMERAS DOWN BROOKLYN (LOL)**
If you are unsure of the ride and have not ridden with the ride leader before you MUST call and discuss your background to determine suitability for this ride.
The ride travels on roads with medium levels of traffic many of which are single lane so you need to be confident about riding close to cars. We have 4 long hills which we tackle at between 10km/hr to 18 km/hr. Along with faster descents and some flat sections the average speed is expected to be brisk (23-25 km/hr). No drop ride for Hills (wait at the top) but we don't wait on the flat.
Between Mt Colah and Pie in the Sky (both directions) we will travel in a group (peloton) where those in the back will get a chance to shelter from the wind. You must be confident in riding close to other riders for these sections. We regroup a few times on the ride and prefer to keep the group compact and rolling. We do however regroup at the top of the 5 major climbs (Kissing Pt Rd), Bobbo West , top of Mount White. Pie in the Sky, and top of Bobbo East , we wait until everyone is together before heading off again.
This should definitely NOT be your first ride with Bike North, unless you know the terrain and have recently ridden this or a similar route at about the same speed. It is strongly recommended you do a series of rides which build up your fitness, skills and strength. Try some medium and then medium-hard rides before coming on this one.
For this ride you need to be completely self sufficient in minor repairs and carry two water bottles and small snacks. A mountain bike will not be suitable and you should have a road bike, light touring bike or flat bar road bike. The bike must be in good mechanical condition.
The ride has several options for leaving part way. From Mt Colah to Brooklyn and then back to Turramurra we follow the main north railway line.
Please be patient with Ride leader as he will be reading out pre ride instruction in full and riding through the back streets of KISSO to familiarize himself .
