Northern Beaches Gravel – Off-road

About this event

Overview:

A 55km loop of the Northern Beaches taking in some of the best off road routes in Metro Sydney.

Route Description:

The ride begins at Sticky Bottle bike shop in Brookvale and heads south to Manly Dam, it then runs parallel to Wakehurst Parkway on a very technical trail up to Forest Way, it then descends down to Davidson where it joins the Cascades Trail, a steep firetrail with rocky creek crossings. The climb up on Bare Creek Trail is very steep and you may find yourself pushing your bike up this hill. Exiting the bushland onto Mona Vale Road puts you back on the tarmac and up to Terry Hills for the Café Stop at Berkelo Bakery. After refuelling you’ll head offroad down Duckholes and up the very steep Chiltern Trail to Ingleside Heights. It’s mostly downhill from here to the finish as you wind your through Elanora Heights, Narrabeen Lagoon, Cromer, Dee Why Beach and back to Brookvale for a well earned lunch.

Cafe: Berkelo Bakery, Corner of McCarrs Creek Road and Kanagra Avenue, Terrey Hills 2084

Important Considerations:

Consider fitting flat pedals to your bike as you will have to unclip.

• If you are not well versed in pre-jumping obstacles, picking lines through rocky creek crossings and very steep off road sections this ride may not be suitable.

• Small creek crossings.

• This ride is most suited to an MTB, however a gravel bike with very low gears and 45mm+ tyres can be used

• This ride will take 5 hours

• Ride with a safe stopping distance, especially on downhills.

• Do not rely on riders ahead to choose the correct line or speed.

• Hazard calls for obstacles such as rocks and sticks may be too frequent, so stay alert and scan the trail ahead.

• Trail surface may have changed due to wet weather, erosion and maintenance.

• Emergency access: Public Road and Trails however all trails are behind locked gates (National Parks) with bike access.
