About this event

This is a scenic but hard ride with several steep climbs.. You should be comfortable doing rides such as Akuna Bay and Church Point,Hills and Surfside, or North to West Head before attempting this ride.

You need to be capable of riding the first 40km of this ride at a pace significantly above the average advertised over undulating terrain. The latter half is slower but is hillier.

Starting promptly, we ride via Mona Vale Rd and McCarrs Ck Rd to views of Pittwater around Church Point and Bayview. Then via Barrenjoey Rd to Palm Beach Wharf in time for the 9am ferry. (10:30 if long delays). Some traffic pressure in shoulderless places. If time, we'll divert via Whale Beach Rd, adding 2km and 60M of climbing.

Glorious views of Broken Bay and Lion Island as we cross to Wagstaffe. After a short ride around the Pretty Beach foreshore, there's a long, steep climb to Marie Byles Lookout above Kilcare - views to the city on a clear day. Then we descend through the glorious coastal forest of Bouddi National Park which is progressively replaced by suburbia and more traffic as we approach Gosford. Care is required in descending this section with some steep descents and a rough road surface. The final leg to Woy Woy is more leisurely, around the foreshore of Brisbane Water. We return from Woy Woy by train to Hornsby, thence train back to Turramurra. We might abort the ride between Gosford and Woy Woy according to train timing and heat.

Coffee at Palm Beach if time, else Wagstaffe. Lunch probably takeaway for train consumption.

Limited bikes can fit on the ferry, and other riders might well be ferrying. Non-members, please contact the Ride Leader via email it you are interested in coming.

We'll hopefully return to Turramurra about 2pm, if we board 9am ferry and minimal delays thereafter.

Distance: 78.00 (excluding ferry ride!)
