WITH RAIN A CHANCE, MONITOR CALENDAR FOR POSSIBLE CANCELLATION OR CHANGE.
Flat-ish suburban odyssey. GOOD IF RAIN INTERVENES: plenty of shelter spots, & 13 scattered rail-bail options are shown on/near route.
Almost 50% on paths, including some of: The Ponds, M7, Lalor Creek, PVC, M4, Duck River, Cooks River, M5, Woolooware Bay, Bate Bay. (Leaders may prefer adjacent road in some places).
The most complex and trafficked section is 13km from leaving the Cooks River until Kogarah Bay. Leaders should have ridden this section beforehand at similar time and day-of-week.
Several loo/water options are shown on route map.
If stopping only once for refreshment, the Village Cafe; within Rookwood Cemetery @ 39km, is recommended.
If stopping twice (coffee and lunch?), then options in/near Parramatta Park @ 24km and either: Sans Souci various @ 55km, "Toast"; @ 64km, "Wanderer Cafe"; @ 67km, or Cronulla various at end.
Although there are relatively few traffic lights for such a long route thru suburbia, the route IS fiddly in places, and some paths are popular with walkers & riders. It is certainly NOT for "Strava Strivers".
Riders wanting to transport their bikes from and to home should consider parking near Epping or Chatswood Stations. To the Tallawong start, the Metro takes 23 and 36 minutes respectively. The two-train trip back from Cronulla takes approx 1h30 and 1h15 respectively.
