About this event

Special note to riders for the day

Pre-registration required. Briefing will commence after the arrival of the 8.02am Woy Woy train, starting 7:13am from Epping, 7:26am from Hornsby. Timetables do change, pls check prior and on the day. In the event of poor weather the ride may be cancelled, please check the Bike North website.

On the day there may be small modifications made to the route to cater for conditions and the group on the day.

Standard description.

Ride commences and ends at the Woy Woy railway station and proceeds in a counterclockwise direction around Brisbane Water harbour.

Commencing initially along the peaceful banks of Woy Woy, riders will ride around Blackwall Mountain, and over the Rip Bridge with its tremendous water views, Riders will then head mostly along Empire Bay Dr to Kincumber South. A few short hills will be ridden. As will some side roads to add in more water views.

Joining the shared path at the entrance to the Nautical Retirement Village, we commence riding through numerous reserves, over creeks, and along water ways ending close to Saratonga. Sections will be divided with suburbia.

It's then up to Avoca Dr with a climb of Mount Pleasant. Avoca Dr and the Central Coast Hwy will be used to take riders into the heart of Gosford, both on the road and along shared paths, and some back streets.

From Gosford riders will once again experience significant water views and reserves and a little suburbia, optionally along numerous shared paths to return back to Woy Woy. This section is mostly flat.

Coffee can be enjoyed either in Gosford or back in Woy Woy.

The ride includes significant flattish areas but also has hilly areas. Riders are to have geared bikes due to the hilly nature of ride sections. Road bikes and flat bar road bikes are advised.

Riders should be comfortable and competent with doing Bike North ride Pie In the Sky at a moderate pace of 19 to 22 km/hr overall.

While there are numerous shared paths, riders need to be comfortable cycling on the road or road shoulder with some fast-passing traffic.

There is an option for riders to leave the ride at Gosford, which is approximately 12 km from the end of the ride. Additionally, there are a number of railway stations between Gosford and Woy Woy. Rider optionally could turn around at any point and retrace the route, but please let the ride leader know BEFORE you leave the ride.
