Scenic bush and water based climbing ride from Epping through Lane Cove National Park LCNP, the upper north shore back way, and through Bobbin Head to Hornsby and back to Epping.
Please note, Riders are to be comfortable riding hills as this ride has a lot of climbing.
Riders leave Epping Station toward Macquarie University. The ride continues to and through the length of Lane Cove National Park bushland alongside the Lane Cove River, crossing at the weir, or walking across the Delhi Rd bridge if the Weir is not available to cross.
The ride then commences its trek through the Upper North Shore leafy suburbs with a healthy climb to Roseville, crossing over at the Pacific Hwy. Using back roads the ride continues through to Bobbin Head Rd.
At this point there has been a reasonable amount of climbing and riders might like to take a break at one of the cafes at North Turramurra.
Once refreshed the ride continues to go down to and up from our beautiful Bobbin Head waters, passing through to Hornsby, Turramurra, and then returning to Epping.
Allow 4 to 4.5 hours including ride briefing, regroups, and coffee at a Moderate 22 kmh pace. Riders are to have geared road bikes or geared flat bar road bikes due to the hilly nature of ride sections. There is a mix of quieter back streets and trafficked roads. Riders need to be comfortable cycling on the road and road shoulder with traffic. Where there may be shared paths, at this ride level the ride leader may choose to use either the available shared path or to be on the road.
Route hazards include bollards, sticks, potholes etc. Riders to be particularly careful on shared paths with pedestrians and dogs that may unexpectedly move in front of the rider.
This ride is better held on a weekend or out of peak hours due to the potential of the ride crossing with peak hour traffic in several locations. Traffic conditions do change over time and the ride leader and riders are to be familiar with conditions relating to their planned ride time.
The ride does pass near or through several railway stations which would provide options for riders to leave the ride. Check how trackwork might impact these options for the day. Optionally riders could turn around at any point and retrace the route, but please let the ride leader know BEFORE you leave the ride.
