BN Members ‘Wowed’ by Photography!

Chris Byrne | Published on 7/10/2024
With some trepidation, given the recent consistent, multi-day and overnight rain, eight Bike North riders met at St Leonards Station at 9am on Sunday morning to set off on a Bike North first, the inaugural Wow! Photography interest group event.

Led by Ride Leader and local expert, Wendy Jannings, the group was entertained with many historical facts as we meandered around the quiet streets visiting sites such as the Coal Loader, Balls Head and Carradah Park (the old BP site). (Thank you to Anne who acted as sweep ensuring no-one got lost!)

The Northern Sydney Harbour foreshores provided many photo opportunities for riders to learn new photography tricks such as how to use the Snapseed app, selective focusing, blurring backgrounds, composition, the rule of thirds, exploiting unusual photo angles, natural framing and reflections. The reflections aspect was assisted by the many puddles we encountered from the overnight rain. As they say, "every cloud..."

A selection of the great photos taken are shown here.

Coffee was enjoyed at Milsons Point before the return ride that stopped at the photogenic St Thomas Rest Park /Cemetery.

Fun fact: John Whitton of Meadowbank's John Whitton Bridge fame, rests here. This famous bridge features in virtually all of Bike North's Meadowbank starts.
