The email lists below are available for the purposes described. Bike North encourages members to subscribe to mailing lists and contribute to discussions by sending emails to list addresses
Bike North strongly encourages members to at least join the news list. News is sent only once a week and is not a list members can post to, but it contains lots of valuable information about things happening in our region each week.
Here is a list of the email lists Bike North runs with some notes about the useage of the lists.
To check which lists you are on, join a list or remove yourself from a list please use the "Check Your Details" link on the left.

Rules and monitoring for bn_chat list
- Every post to the list must be related to cycling.
This list is about cycling - so if there is no direct and tangible link to cycling spelt out in the narrative it is "off-topic" and should not be sent. Do not reply to an item which does mention cycling but then make no mention of cycling yourself.
- Do not post attachments to this list.
If you want to share an item then send a web link. Either a link to an existing resource or a link to a site where you have loaded the file. There are many free options to host files if you wish to set one up for sharing information.
- Keep the posts shorter.
Only include relevant material from previous posts rather than keeping the entire thread. Readers of chat will have seen the original post, so you only need to keep a small piece to set the context of your reply.
- Questions are encouraged.
If you want to know something about cycling the chances are that someone on this list either knows the answer or can point you in the right direction. There are no silly questions so feel relaxed to ask questions via this list without fear of criticism, and with the expectation you will receive useful answers. It is likely that some one else has the same question as you.
- Keep all comments and responses positive and non-personal.
This is no place for negative comments about list members. Answer questions and make observations, in a positive way. If a response can't be positive, then it is better not to send anything. Wait before you reply.
- Monitoring procedure.
If a post is deemed off-topic, has attachments or contains personal abuse then a warning message will be sent to the list by the List Monitor. The message will explicitly mention which email offended by including a line or two of the message and a statement as to which rule was broken. If there is any subsequent post to the list either discussing the ruling or continuing the conversation (except for any reasonable email failures or delays) then that person will be taken off the list for 48 hours. A note will be sent to the list indicating that a person has been taken off and the reason.
